More High-Def Headlines

Travel Channel Commits to Hi-Def - TV Week

Travel Channel will be launching a high-definition simulcast in the first quarter of 2008, the network said. “HD is part of the proposition for doing business now,” said Pat Younge, president and general manager of Travel Channel. “Research has shown that consumers want to see travel in high definition.” Nearly 95 percent of next year’s schedule has been commissioned in high def, Mr. Younge said. New episodes of current shows on the Travel Channel lineup as well as new series will be shot in pure high definition, while previous episodes of existing series will be upconverted.

Not All HDTVs Can Keep Up With the Action - NY Times

Sit for the first time in front of a high-definition TV tuned to a nature program broadcast in HD, and the reaction is almost always the same: a dropping of the jaw. But if you’re a sports fan or serious video gamer, the same set showing the Super Bowl or a car-racing game might elicit a different response: the screen cannot keep up with the action. Fast movement results in a blur, what the TV industry calls ghosting, because the screen’s ability to refresh the image cannot keep up with the action.
