Cable Cos Test System to Expand HD, Keep Costs Low - Reuters
Cox Communications said on Wednesday it is testing a technology that allows cable operators to offer more bandwidth-hungry high definition (HD) programming by delivering a television station only when the user tunes in. The technology called switched digital video is just one step in a battle by cable companies to fight off competition from the advanced TV services of telecommunications rivals and from satellite operators who claim leadership in HD.

Hey mark (sorry didn't see any other place to contact you.
I jlive in the cincinnati area and they are finally adding the espn 2 hd to time warner. I thought this would be great.
Until I saw an * on the time warner flyer promoting espn2hd it said not available on one way cable cards!
Well I have had a cable card for 2 years now and have always been able to watch espn hd and other HD channels. Is this the case at any other time warners across the nation? If this is true then is has to be a ploy to make more $ since I would have to spend another $6 a month at least to get a cable box.
I despise cable boxes!!
Reply or post here I'll look for an answer
Thanks!

I've never heard of specific linear HD channels only being available with a box, not a Cable Card. I'll try to look into this a little more, but so far all I've found is this notice on the TW Cincy website: http://www.timewarnercable.com/cincinnati/programming/legal_notices2.html

No asterisk reference to Cable Cards there so I'll keep checking.

thanks mark.
Well I will find out tomorrow, that is the launch date.
I called TW the other day and the person I talked too didn't even know they were getting espn 2 hd! I was not surprised. They have never been able to answer anything but general questions.
I already complained to the Better Business Bureau, FCC, local tv channel and the enquirer.
If i do get the channel then they should have never had the * in the first place. If I don't well then
my complaints are in process.
I'll probably switch to dish if that is the case.
Thanks!!

Well now you have!!
After over an hour on the phone with TWC they finally find someone who says oh yeah you can't get espn2 hd with cable card.
Which I know is just a scam to get me to pay them more money.
Looks like I am switching to dish!
