Sharp, Mitsubishi License DTV Technology from Zenith

Zenith Electronics, a unit of LG Electronics, has licensed its digital TV reception technology to Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America and Sharp Corp., although specific terms were not released. According to the company, Zenith's 8-VSB (eight-level Vestigial Side Band) technology is part of the ATSC's DTV Standard adopted by the FCC regarding the operation of over-the-air digital TV receivers. FCC requirements for DTV tuners include the 8-VSB demodulators; hence, the licensing deal with Sharp and Mitsubishi.
