TV History Repeating Itself

Alex Pham of the L.A. Times ran an interesting piece yesterday on a recent phenomenon brought on by the HDTV revolution that may not be new after all: house calls by TV technicians. In the 1950s and 60s, techs would visit people’s houses to deliver the just-purchased TVs and help install and adjust antennas. Today, techs from organizations such as the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) command four-figure fees to calibrate your HDTV in order to optimize picture quality. Needless to say, it’s a growth industry.
