DIRECTV Inks Deal for 11 More HD Channels

DIRECTV said today that it has agreements in place with 11 additional HD networks to launch this September after its new satellite is in place. The new channels are:

Animal Planet
CNBC
Chiller
Discovery Channel
TLC
The Science Channel
Starz East
Starz West
Starz Edge
Starz Comedy
Starz Kids & Family

This is great news for HD owners everywhere because either you're with DIRECTV and you'll get a slew of new channels in high-def, or you're with one of their competitors who will feel the need to add to their own HD channel lineups to stay competitive. Either way, we all win.

Two questions, however that I'll try to get answered: 1] What exactly is "Chiller in HD" and 2] What does the impending launch of the Discovery Channel HD simulcast and the other three Discovery networks (Animal Planet, Science Channel, TLC) mean for Discovery HD Theater?

Chiller is an all horror channel that NBC created. To my knowledge, it is only carried on Directv currently. The press release I read said that it is available in HD, but NBC was unsure when it would be broadcast on Directv in HD. I guess we now know it will be September.
