Four New HD Networks on Tap at Discovery

Discovery Networks, parent company of a number of cable channels, is planning to launch TLC, Animal Planet, The Science Channel and The Discovery Channel in HD this fall, according to a report in TV Week. As most of you know, Discovery HD Theater has been around for several years and is essentially a compilation of top-rated programming from Discovery's various networks, inlcuding the four aforementioned, the Travel Channel and a few others.

Discovery is also planning two more HD networks for the first quarter of 2008, although no word yet on which two those will be. (I'd wager good money that one of them is the Travel Channel.) It is also unclear what will happen to Discovery HD Theater once many of the networks from which it gets its programming go high-def themselves.
